Two Harbors Catalina and its setting
Two Harbors Catalina lies on the isthmus of Santa Catalina Island, between Isthmus Cove on the lee side and Catalina Harbor on the windward side. It is a different destination from Avalon. Think about which harbor you need and how you will return before booking, especially if your mainland arrival and departure are on different routes.
The location makes a useful base for exploring the island’s quieter western area, but travel and supplies deserve advance planning. The ferry guide explains mainland routes, and the hiking guide covers permits and trail preparation. Check the current timetable for the specific date instead of assuming that every connection runs throughout the year.

Ferry from San Pedro
San Pedro is the mainland ferry port named for Two Harbors. Check the destination on the sailing before booking, since San Pedro also has services to Avalon. If your trip includes a return from a different island port, confirm each direction separately and leave enough time for the connection to your next mainland journey.
Catalina Express recommends reaching its terminal at least one hour before departure. Its published winter fares cover October 20, 2026 through March 31, 2027; actual sailings should be checked for your date. Review the ticket and baggage rules that apply to the operator and route you choose. The arrival guide helps with connections from the Los Angeles area to the mainland ports.

Seasonal boat from Avalon
The Cyclone boat between Avalon and Two Harbors is seasonal, with the published season running from May to early October. The crossing is approximately 40 minutes. Check the available dates and return sailings before building a day around it; do not assume a winter departure. Weather and operational changes can affect a boat plan, so leave room for the rest of your itinerary.
Cyclone passengers carry their own hand baggage and keep it with them; this boat does not offer checked baggage. A bicycle or surfboard can travel with a paying passenger if space permits, at 8 USD each way. These are Cyclone conditions, not a general rule for all ferries. Confirm space and the current conditions for the particular sailing when booking.
Land travel and walking
A private interior shuttle is an alternative to consider between Avalon and Two Harbors. It is a private transfer, so ask for availability, pickup details and the total for your group. It should not be treated as a per-person public bus fare. Pickups outside Avalon require advance reservation under the published provider terms.
Rental golf carts are restricted to permitted areas of Avalon and are unsuitable for the journey to Two Harbors. The Wildlands Express lists routes between Avalon and Airport in the Sky and between the airport and Little Harbor; it requires a reservation and is not a through public bus from Avalon to Two Harbors. If Little Harbor is part of your plan, arrange a specific connection in advance.
Camping and supplies
Choose a campsite and transport together. A remote campsite has different supply needs from a stay in town, and a camping reservation does not itself arrange a ride. Parsons Landing should not be planned around a regular water supply. Boat-in sites have neither running water nor sanitation stations, so bring everything needed, including water and a portable toilet.
Check the exact campsite access and reservation conditions for your dates. If you plan to travel via Little Harbor, confirm and reserve the actual transport rather than relying on a general description of access. The accommodation guide distinguishes Avalon camping from more remote options. Some named Two Harbors Island Company businesses use cashless payment, so bring a suitable card or mobile payment method.
Trails and island conditions
For a hike in Conservancy land, obtain the free hiking permit before setting out. It does not replace a camping booking or guarantee that a particular trail is open. Check the current trail map and access for the day, carry sufficient water and prepare for limited mobile reception. Summer heat and winter rain can change the demands of a route.
The Trans-Catalina Trail is a 38.5-mile multi-day route and should not be treated as an easy local connection. The Conservancy advises staying at least 125 feet from bison. During the island-resident hunting season from October 24 to December 18, 2026, zones change; remain on designated roads and trails and check the current information before walking.
